About the Project

We are archivists and librarians at the Arab American National Museum in Dearborn, MI, and the Khayrallah Center for Lebanese Diaspora Studies at North Carolina State University. We are also working with partners at the Houston Metropolitan Research Center (HMRC), a division of the Houston Public Library.

This project is funded by a 2019 planning grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC).

Our goal is to build and maintain an index, or a bibliographic portal, that is inclusive of the full range of Arab American collections, incorporating all countries of origin, religions and cultures. We define Arab American as anybody with ancestry from any of the 22 Arab countries (Algeria, Bahrain, Comoros Islands, Djibouti, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Libya, Lebanon, Mauritania, Morocco, Palestine, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, Yemen).

If you believe anything within your own institution's collections are relevant, or if you have come across relevant collections in your research, please complete this brief form.

If you would like to learn more about our project, please email Librarian@accesscommunity.org.
